About Me

Ashley Parker Therapist

My path to this work wasn't straightforward, but what I've come to learn is that's what makes me unique as a therapist and why I'm good at it.

I'll skip the early life stuff, but in terms of where my work began, I started out working with young people in schools. To compensate for the part-time post, I took an office job and then on my 30th Birthday, mid-maternity leave with my first child and what felt like a the floor falling away became, eventually, the thing that pushed me further into this work.

I went back to university for a second time, went deeper and completed a Masters specialising in relationships working with families, couples and individuals. Six year at Relate and then a private practice that has been thriving for over a decade.

I'm also a parent to three and wife to one living the beautiful, honestly relentless chaos of family life. What that means for you is that when you enter in to therapy with me, I have a breadth of knowledge and experience professionally, but also a first hand insight in to the trials and tribulations of relationships and family life.

What I bring to the room is warmth, honesty and a space where you can both feel genuinely heard.

I'm not here to take sides or play judge and jury.

I won't hand out homework that will add to the load, but instead I will give you the tools and insight to get through those trickier times with a greater understanding of one another and hopefully a sprinkle of magic.

My Approach

If you’ve found your way here, I’m guessing it wasn’t by accident.

Maybe things have felt off for a while - the distance crept in slowly or one conversation too many ended badly. Perhaps you're not even arguing these days, just living parallel lives - existing alongside each other, rather than really together.

Whatever brought you here, I want you to know this: this is a really good first step.

My approach is relational which means that there's a blend of  attachment focus and the systems which we live in. In plain language this means I'm interested in the whole picture - not just what's happening between you now, but the patterns, your history and the coping strategies you're brought with you into the relationship. Often the things that are causing the most friction, make complete sense when you understand where they came from.

I work with both individuals and couples and I bring warmth, honesty and a genuine curiosity to every session. And to help you feel like someone is in your corner.
